Members of ISO TC 247 “Fraud countermeasures and controls” have recommended that the ISO 16125 “Security Management system” standard be designated with an ISO series number. Prior to issuing the document for a ballot as a draft international standard (DIS), ISO approved the recommendation and has renumbered the document as ISO 34001. This represents the belief that this a significant security standard and will be part of a series of standards to be developed under the 34000 series. This is recognition of the standard be used at a level such as ISO 9000 for quality or ISO 27000 for information security. We are pleased with this development as a recognition of the work of ISO TC 247.
Additionally the following standards that are currently under development have been submitted to ISO to be included in the ISO 34000 series.
ISO 18482 (ISO 34002) “Security management system- Guidance for use –Risk assessment”
ISO 16678 (ISO 34003) “Guideline for interoperable object identification and related authentication systems to deter counterfeiting and illicit trade”
